CrossLeft Presents: Gary Vance and Will Burhans

We have a great show for you today. Our musician this week is the Rev. Will Burhans, who serves as pastor of Charlotte Congregational Church, in Charlotte, Vermont. Will presents for us today his song, “What Does the Lord Require?” a beautiful interpretation of Micah 6, verse 8. Will’s song will play in its entirety following our featured speaker, The Rev. Gary Vance, pastor of Word of Life Ministries in Leona, Tennessee. Gary delivers for us an essay, "Wasn't Jesus a Liberal?" that he had published at CommonDreams.org in October of last year. Gary has had a remarkable spiritual journey within the Christian faith and the various ministries that he has shepherded are a testament to the strength of his calling to follow Christ in reaching out to the poor, to the dispossessed and to those who are crying out in our society for social justice. We’ll hear more from Gary in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned. You can find out more about Will and information about ordering his Cds at www.revwillburhans.com. You can contact Gary at gvance1@gmail.com.

Special Announcement:

This week we would especially urge you to consider joining religious leaders in California in their stand against propositions 74, 75, 76, 77, and 78 and their support of propositions 79 and 80 in the California special election on November 8. You can find out more about these propositions and sign the petition at the California religious leaders’ website: http://www.faithbasedleaders.org.

More information about our show and CrossLeft:

Each week we’ll feature a progressive Christian minister or activist and a progressive Christian musician as we seek to introduce you to a diverse range of progressive Christian voices from across the country, each of whom are following a calling to articulate the progressive core of the gospel of Jesus Christ. And we fully expect there to be a diversity of opinion and belief even within our ranks, and we will endeavor to encourage and respect such diversity of thought, belief and expression as we all respond in distinctive ways to the liberating call of our savior.

CrossLeft.org is a strategic clearing-house and central hub for grassroots activism among progressive Christians. We believe that working from CrossLeft.org, we have the power to take back the way in which Christianity is perceived and interpreted.

CrossLeft encourages you to ask, “What if progressive Christians, concerned about justice, responsibility, and care for the poor, could help to reframe the ongoing conversation about faith?”

The Executive Director of CrossLeft, Kety Esquivel, the Leadership Team members and the members of CrossLeft.org welcome you to join us in answering this question.

You can find us on the web at www.crossleft.org and we invite you to become a member and join us as we reclaim our faith and help to reframe the conversation about Christianity in the United States of America.
